Have you heard about CicLAvia? It’s a roving temporary park (or pedestrian zone) festival, inspired by a weekly festival in Bogotá, that catalyzes vibrant public spaces, active transportation and good health through car-free streets. CicLAvia temporarily closes streets to car traffic and opens them to Los Angelenos to use as a public park. It’s the biggest open streets event in the USA, and participants represent 80% of the population of the City of Los Angeles. It happens about 5 times a year, and it’s coming to Atwater Village in June!
On Sunday, June 11th, streets along the route in Glendale and Atwater Village will be closed to cars and open to cyclists, pedestrians, runners, and skaters, from 9am to 4pm. It’s a marvelous way to enjoy an early summer’s day, explore the neighborhood, meet new people, and “do” Los Angeles differently.
The Crystal Matrix will be open, of course, and you are more than welcome to come in, check out our calendar of events, shop for crystals, and partake of any specials we offer in honor of this wonderful day. Bear in mind that you’ll need to park outside the area. Consider taking advantage of public transportation, or the bike path that runs along the LA River, just down the street. Atwater Village is already incredibly pedestrian friendly, and we love strolling up and down Glendale Boulevard and seeing what our neighbors have to offer. This will encourage more people to do the same, all while fostering good health, which, as longtime friends know, is part of our mission.
We’re very excited to see how the day goes, and what it means for our neighborhood, and hope you will join in on the festivities. Please drop in as you enjoy your day!
